This document, entitled “2020 CE REQUIREMENTS FOR NH OPTOMETRISTS,” was sent yesterday evening by Guy Lessard OD, President of the NH Board of Registration:

Regarding Continuing Requirement for Optometrists in 2020

For several months, efforts to curb the COVID-19 pandemic have restricted the availability of in-person continuing education.  On May 19, the Governor’s Office announced modifications to the continuing education requirements of the various licensing boards in the state.

Without going over all of the details, the Board of Registration in Optometry is summarizing the document as it applies to its licensees:

-The modifications apply only to CE taken during 2020, to be reported in 2021.

-Licensees shall be allowed to complete continuing education requirements through remote instruction until December 31, 2020.

-Remote instruction is understood to be online “live” courses, webinars, and other such presentations on topics that would normally be accepted for Class I CE.

-There is no requirement that the CE hours include tests on the material.

-There is no change in the number of CE hours required, and the rules for Class I, Class I Alternative, and Class II categories are unchanged.

-It is highly recommended that licensees secure documentation of courses taken.

Board of Registration in Optometry

The Meetings Committee has made the difficult decision to postpone the October 2020 and February 2021 “live”meetings.  They have been re-scheduled for October 2021 and February 2022, respectively.

There were several pressing reasons for this decisions – all tied to the safety of you, the attendees.  We would not have been able to maintain the protections needed to do it right.

The next thing everyone will be thinking of is, how do I get my CE this year?  Remember that the State Board has ruled that any course sponsored by the NHOA or any other state association, the AOA, the Academy, any accredited college of optometry, medicine, or pharmacy, or approved by COPE, is approved for your CE credit this year. We are waiting for a decision from the Governor about 2021
