Next NHOA Meeting – April 21, 2021
   Meeting Schedule

The next NHOA CE meeting is coming up soon, and we have a varied, interesting and exciting program planned.  We are excited to get back to a live, in-person format, and the schedule is now set.  There is something for everyone!

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at the Grappone Center in Concord, NH.  The Grappone Center assures us that they are able to maintain the proper social distancing for both lectures and lunch.  Please note that masks/face coverings WILL BE REQUIRED for all attendees, for everyone’s safety.

Registration for the meeting is now open.  Study the schedule below, and then drop down to the registration link at the very bottom of this page, where you will see a link to the online registration.  (By registering, you are giving permission for your name and email address to be released to our exhibitors/sponsors at their request.)

We plan to present eight hours of CE, all Category 1, with 4 of the hours on glaucoma.  You can get all the CE you need at NHOA meetings!

Our confirmed speakers at this time are Dr. Bridget Hendricks of MCPHS, Dr. Jerome Sherman of SUNY, and Dr. Gayathri Srinivasan of NECO.

We are grateful to all our exhibitors and sponsors.  Please thank them all by visiting with their representatives during the breaks.  Otherwise they won’t want  to do it again, and the cost to you, our members, will have to jump significantly.

The SCHEDULE for the day (subject to change if required):

7:30 AM – 8 AM  Coffee and pastries

8:00 AM – 9 AM:  Dr. Hendricks, “Back to Basics:  What is Glaucoma and Who Is At Risk”

9 AM – 11 AM:  Dr. Hendricks,  “Glaucoma Testing:  The Old, The New, and The Horizon”

11:00 AM – noon:  Dr. Hendricks, “Glaucoma Management:  Current Trends”

Noon – 1 PM:  Lunch and NHOA Business Meeting

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM:  Dr. Sherman (via Zoom), ”The Best of Intriguing, Important, Interesting and Educational Cases Over 50 Decades”

3:00 PM – 4:00 PM:  Dr. Srinivasan, “A Primer on Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI)”

4:00 PM – 5:00 PM:  Dr. Srinivasan, “ Identifying and Treating Binocular Vision Disorders – A Primary Care Approach”

(All courses will be COPE-approved and qualified for Category 1 NH CE)

Meeting Ends when the CE is complete.

The Member Charge for the CE program is: Morning $92, afternoon $92, all day $184.  Remember that if you are an AOA member through any affiliate or State Association (not just NHOA) you register at “member” rates.  Optometry students:  email the NHOA office for special registration information.

The Non-Member charge for the full day’s CE program  is $552.

Online registration will close at 5 PM on Friday, April 16 – after that, you will have to register on-site, pay a $25 late fee, and take a chance on not having a seat or a meal!  So don’t risk it – register NOW!

We contract for meals based on pre-registrations, and must give a final count four business days before the meeting.  If you must cancel an advance registration, please contact the NHOA office no later than Sunday, April 18 – otherwise we will be obligated to charge you $30 to cover our costs.  Thanks for your cooperation.

HANDOUTS:  As in the past, lecture handouts will be available ONLINE for download about a week before the meeting.  You can print them out, or bring your laptop or tablet to the meeting (there will be free WiFi access in the meeting room.)  After you register for the meeting, when the handouts are ready for distribution, you will receive an email from the NHOA with downloading instructions.  Alternatively, you may request printed handouts as we have done before.  To offset the rising cost of printing and paper, there will be a charge of $20 for the day if you want a set of printed handouts.

REGISTRATION:
CONTROL + CLICK on this link to register online.  Note that you will NOT receive a separate email confirming your registration.  You can also attend the meeting and register on-site, but there will be a late registration fee and we cannot guarantee you a meal or a handout.

NOTICE FROM THE STATE BOARD

This document, entitled “2020 CE REQUIREMENTS FOR NH OPTOMETRISTS,” was sent recently by Guy Lessard OD, President of the NH Board of Registration:

Regarding Continuing Requirement for Optometrists in 2020

For several months, efforts to curb the COVID-19 pandemic have restricted the availability of in-person continuing education.  On May 19, the Governor’s Office announced modifications to the continuing education requirements of the various licensing boards in the state.

Without going over all of the details, the Board of Registration in Optometry is summarizing the document as it applies to its licensees:

-The modifications apply only to CE taken during 2020, to be reported in 2021.

-Licensees shall be allowed to complete continuing education requirements through remote instruction until December 31, 2020.

-Remote instruction is understood to be online “live” courses, webinars, and other such presentations on topics that would normally be accepted for Class I CE.

-There is no requirement that the CE hours include tests on the material.

-There is no change in the number of CE hours required, and the rules for Class I, Class I Alternative, and Class II categories are unchanged.

-It is highly recommended that licensees secure documentation of courses taken.

Should you have any questions, please contact Sharon.Canney@oplc.gov
